Ultra marathon runner, Andrea Kooiman, and American Philanthropy host, Shawn Wehan, discuss the ever expanding genres of running and exercise philanthropy. Andrea is the Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of We Run Orange County's Kids (WeROCK), a nonprofit that provides after-school intervention programs for Middle and High School students in the Orange County, California area.
Based on the idea that life is like a marathon, the mission of We ROCK is to teach teenagers the important life skills of goal setting, self-reliance, discipline and self-confidence through the design and delivery of instructional programs focused on the proper training for, and completion of, a marathon.
Further insights in this podcast include story snippets involving the background history of Steve Prefontaine and the Steve Prefontaine Foundation, Dan Pallota and the AIDS Rides, and background from the Almanac of American Philanthropy.
